and The Food Truck Bazaar

Forlorn Strangers headline first annual Folk Festival on April 13
Roots-loving, Nashville-based, foot-stomping string quintet Forlorn Strangers headline the free first annual Folk Festival onFriday, April 13, at Lake Concord Park in Casselberry. The expanded Art & Music in the Park and Food Truck Bazaar will be5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Entertaining comparisons to an “Americana Fleetwood Mac”, Forlorn Strangers are comprised of five unique songwriters whose individual songwriting and performance styles complement one another to create a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. Beyond a like-minded appreciation for roots music, family ties add to the band dynamic: Abigail Dempsey (vocals/fiddle) and Hannah Leigh (vocals/mandolin) are sisters, and Hannah and Ben Lusk (vocals/banjo/guitar/piano) are married. The other two members are Chris Banke (vocals/guitar/mandolin) and Jesse Thompson (upright bass/dobro/pedal steel). With so many musical points of view converging, electric and acoustic instruments mix, and the lines between genres are regularly crossed. Blues, bluegrass, folk, rock and pop songs are all found in the band’s repertoire, drawing inspiration from the likes of Fleetwood Mac, The Band, and Crosby, Stills & Nash. The night begins with opening act called The Novel Ideas, a country folk quintet from Massachusetts. Featuring the voices of three different songwriters, The Novel Ideas create a blend of pastoral, harmony driven, and plaintive Americana. In 2014 they released a 10" single "Lost on the Road", featuring two new songs and marking the band's first effort as a five piece. The following couple years have been spent touring nationally, writing, and recording as a band. Their latest release, St. Paul Sessions, was recorded live in an old church in their hometown. It features six unreleased songs, and aims to capture the raw, live energy of their live performance. Along with the music, there will be a dozen food trucks and artists and product vendors filling Lake Concord Park for a night of good time folk music.
